Insurance providers have explicit definitions on car insurance discounts. The nearest to car insurance group discounts is when you list down the drivers who belong to your household as part of your auto insurance policy. Thus, your policy will cover mufti-driver insurance that might qualify you for a discount. Ask your insurance providers about it. You need to have your own car insurance because it is the law, and all drivers must have some form of liability coverage. In reality, nothing can stop you from getting additional coverage beyond what is required by law as long as you feel it is necessary.
There are auto clubs that offer services that are similar to some car insurance coverage such as towing and repair privileges. For car insurance, this is called towing and labor coverage, and you would have to choose for the amount from $25 to $75. You could belong to a club that offers these services, thus adding this to your coverage would be redundant. Information regarding these clubs is also available online. You can check if they have active membership in your area and what are the other services they offer. Compare if the services they offer are they cheaper if you decide to be a member? Would the privileges be worth it if you join the group? Would your car insurance provider give a reward or due consideration if you are a member of a group?
