As per financial responsibility laws of Texas, all residents who own cars and operate them on the public roads need to acquire car insurance coverage. This is because there is more than just your personal medical expense to think about when an accident occurs. The minimum liability insurance has to be purchased, so as to take care of expenses for hospital care and rehabilitation after an untoward traffic mishap where the insured is found to be responsible. Also, minimum liability will cover for possible repairs or replacement of the other party’s car. This car insurance is typically known in Texas as the 20/40/15 coverage. An amount up to $20,000 will be extended to the other motorist if medical and/or hospital care is needed. Meanwhile, the amount of $40,000 maximum covers for bodily injuries to all the passengers in the vehicle. For ruined public and/or private property at any one accident, an amount up to $15,000 will be allotted. The insured’s car can be repaired and the insurer will pick up the tab if the collision and comprehensive insurance is in effect at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, having the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) will help pay for the insured’s medical costs following an accident.
Since you have an excellent health plan, you may choose to purchase the minimum PIP only. Be sure to check the limits and exclusions on your PIP policy to see how it coordinates with your health insurance.
